As a good Microsoft Excel Expert, one need not tell you about studying a pattern and using one formula to make calculations for a group of numbers.

If you are finding the sum of numbers in a row, and you have about 500 rows, it demands that you calculate the data in each row 500 times. But if you know your onion, calculating just one time and copying it down will be sufficient.
If you are finding the averages of your students' score for instance, you would find the average of the first student and the rest will be done automatically when you copy the formula down across the cells.
Another example: If you want to type serial numbers from 1- 1000, naturally you would have typed 1000 times, but as a spreadsheet guru you would input serial number 1 and 2 and then copy it down to give you 1000 serial numbers.
Microsoft Excel is highly equipped with pattern recognition algorithm that let's you make calculations at ease. But first you have to understand the pattern and how to use Ms Excel to give you what you want.
Let's come to real life situations.
There are both good and bad things coming to you in a pattern form. You just need to recognize the pattern and study them then apply a single formula each time such things come up.
David understood this principle and used it all the time. His faith saw him through even when Goliath defied Israel. He knew that the God who delivered him from the lion and the bear could still deliver Goliath into his hands. His formula was faith.
Did you succeed recently or before? Study the patterns and replicate it.
Are you failing? Study the patterns and make amends. You will succeed when you alter the patterns that made you fail.
According to Wikipedia, A pattern is a regularity in the world, in human-made design, or in abstract ideas. As such, the elements of a pattern repeat in a predictable manner.
In another narrower perspective, pattern could be your habits. What is a habit?
"A habit is a routine of behavior that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously".
Your daily habits show a clear pattern to which your life would be. What are you doing daily? What are you consuming daily? What are you fighting subconsciously to achieve? A cumulative of your daily habits can help one to predict whether you will succeed or fail.
Study the patterns to which things occur in your life and decide on the right formula to use. "A formula is any plan or method for doing something well". If there is a pattern, there is also a method for solving the patterns to which things occur in your life.
In summary, recognize the pattern to which things occur in your life, study the pattern, alter the pattern if it isn't to your advantage otherwise replicate the pattern if it is beneficial, then look for a formula.
What did you learn?
